The Darkest Touch by Gena Showalter

  BOOK ELEVEN OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

“What’s my sign? Cancer.”
- Torin, Lord of the Underworld

  Torin's demon for him is like a curse because he has the worst of all others - Disease. Every time he touches someone, he causes illness and death, there may even be a world outbreak. He was the cause of the Black Death * in the Middle Ages because he touched a peasant girl.
  Now, I really like this cover. Gray is very good for the background, and the man looks great. Also made with white hair because Torin itself has white hair and green eyes, a very interesting combination in my opinion. And the gloves in the hand are also in full resemblance to those he usually wear to not touch anyone.
  Before I read the book about him, he was one of my favourites because of his unusual appearance, but after that I lost interest in him. He can't fight or touch his friends in order not to cause them any disease. He is the most unhappy of all because he is lonely and looking at all his friends with their loved ones hurts him even more. He stays home all day at his computers and about the technology he's a real genius. When he meets Scarlett, the Red Queen, his control and his fleshly desire erupt. But every touch of him causes sickness to her.
  Scarlett is an interesting character, but there's something I don't like about her, maybe because she reminds me of Anya. In fact, they both know each other and can't stand each other, which has been quite fun for their cohabitation in the house.
   And finally, Torin has to face his worst battle so far - and the one who feels he can not win. In fact, the book is not that bad and I really liked it, but I decided in my assessment to be neutral.

  * Black Death - The biggest plague epidemic passed across almost all of Europe between 1347 and 1353. Then more than a third of the population died. Black Death is the most devastating pandemic in human history. [Open Wikipedia for more information and see the gizmo, which is eloquent enough.]

The Darkest Craving by Gena Showalter

  BOOK TEN OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

“I’ve been told I’m almost as dangerous as a tsunami.”
- Kane, Lord of the Underworld

“I’ve been told I’m a tsunami.”
- Josephina Aisling

Kane may have one of the most terrible demons - Disaster. With him, he has no contact, and he is more than evil, he is a monster. It can cause any disasters, global catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods, and so on. Unlike the other Lords who communicate with their demons, Kane has never done it with his own, because it is purely IMPOSSIBLE.
  This is the third yellow cover. While the others were a little lighter, that's pretty sparkling yellow. I like the yellow, but only if it is a bright and fresh lemon colour, and this one is not that far.
  When he falls in love with Josephine and goes to her world to save her from her own royal family, the demon doesn't have the same opinion and will do his best to separate them. This time, the only way to get rid of him is death, but he can't let such a thing put terror into the world and that's why he faces a complete dilemma. He is forced to make the hardest choice in his life, but in the end, everything has its happy ending, but it depends on what he would be...
  Kane has always been indifferent to me, I haven't liked him so much, but not unpleasant, so I can describe it in a word what's he for me: neutral. Josephine really suffered too much and what is her guilt? That she's the king's daughter by another woman. Not to mention her fucking half-sister, the princess who does what she wants, and finally who is being punished for her offences? Josephine. This thing with the Fae is totally devoid of any logic! As a princess, she must bear the consequences for her stupidity, not the innocent girl. And these Fae are far from being the sweetest faces everyone has seen in children's movies, on the contrary, they are far more dangerous and terrible than that.
  Because of those things I don't like the book, it's kind of neutral to me (50 to 50), mostly because of Kane's terrible demon and Josephine's misfortunes.

The Darkest Seduction by Gena Showalter

  BOOK NINE OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  At first, I liked Paris quite a lot, but then I lost interest in him. He was a playboy and a female man, and I loved him much until he fell in love with a human woman who was by chance Hunter and served as Bait for him to be captured but was murdered lately. And I totally lost interest in his otherwise so interesting picture before.
  The cover is attractive, there is no dispute. It is entirely up to the title, but it is not really the case. The book tells only how Paris finds and frees her from the place where Cronus holds her, and that is far from seductive. But the black background and these wings in the back look very good.
  Because Paris possesses Promiscuity, he needs every day to be with a different woman, otherwise, his demon weakens, hence himself. And it's not able to be the same twice, she no longer attracts and excites him except Sienna. She's the first one to make him want her again after he's been with her. When he faces the choice between his friend, Aeron, who is possessed by the thirst for blood and murder, and his beloved he chooses him, but there is still hope. Her spirit is with Cronus, at Olympus (renamed Titanium after the Titans beat the Greek gods) and now she's the new guardian of Wrath. Because I missed mentioning in the review of the book about Aeron I will say it here. The only two daemons with wings are Wrath and Hope, except that first are black and the others are white.
  Besides, Sienna has to get used to her demon, they will face many other things, and the output is only one. I admit I was quite surprised at the development, at last, I didn't even expect it and that was the only thing I liked most of all.

The Alchemist's Secret by Scott Mariani

   BOOK ONE OF "BEN HOPE"

  After a whole month without reading a single book, I've decided to start reading on the bus (I use it twice a day which makes almost an hour spent wandering through the window.) So, it's something, after all, I may finish the books a little slower but I'll be reading (I was afraid the next time I'm reading a book would've been at Christmas holiday!) Last week when I came up with this statement, I opened my folder with ebooks and I'd already known I wanted to read a thriller and I settled on Ben Hope's series. And I don't regret at all.
  Wow, quite a nice cover, I like it. Some mist and mystery(there's even a rhyme!) and the running man - very appropriate.
  The Alchemist's Secret wasn't like anything I've read before. It's pretty different unusual. Ben Hope is an ex-SAS soldier which is so cool, I like professional warriors. He reminded me a bit of Eddie Chase (Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase series by Andy McDermott) due to his profession. They're both badass characters (my favourite!). The book also reminded me of Dan Brown's books since the main protagonist is a man yet Ben Hope's not a historian nor scientist, but he's doing very well with solving the riddles and mysteries. I like his appearance, he's blonde with blue eyes and I'm obsessed with this combination. How can't I like him even more?
  The Alchemist's Secret is some kind familiar and not at the same time. It may sound strange but that's how I felt it. This... secret(I'm not giving any spoilers) is quite different from what I've read before - it isn't an ancient artefact, I think it's more like... metaphysical maybe? I'm not or was not so familiar with alchemy, but I've read The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands and I know some stuff.
  One thing I didn't like a lot was the physical torture and I understood my thriller book with a serial killer looks like a child's book in comparison with Franko Bozza. I've read exactly this chapter on the bus stop and later this day went to a museum in Aberdeen which is actually a 17/18th-century prison and I was like - no, I'm not getting any further. After reading it I even felt nausea(it was too much for me).
  But the whole potential of the series is great and I can see how I'll be reading these books the next couple of weeks (but I'll try not to overdo it because I'll be fed up). I like the plot and the conception, it's very interesting and has this flavour of excitement I love the most in thrillers as well the funny side and the mysterious one. I may say I recommend this book and I'm already looking forward to the next one - in fact, can't wait to get into it (I'm only at the beginning).

Disney Princess Sidekicks Book Tag

I was a bit bored and wanted something new and I've just seen this tag in Nut Free Nerd's blog and quite liked it. It's quite different and exactly what it wanted - what a shame! So happy to do it and tag anyone who wants to do it (please, share your posts with me, I wanna see your answers!). I wasn't tagged but anyway, I'd love to do it, so let's start.

Mushu from Mulan

{The Comic Relief – Name your favourite hilarious character or your favourite comedy/funny book}

Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase by Andy McDermott series, especially Eddie! This character's so hilarious, I can't stop laughing while reading these books. He's the best ever.

The Seven Dwarfs from Snow White

{Favorite Group/Ensemble}

The Shadowhunters! I definitely would love to be part of them(ah, why does not fantasy exist for real?! It'd be hundreds, no thousand times better, it's such a boring ordinary world).

Pascal from Tangled

{The loyal cheerleader chameleon – Name a book that started out one way but changed for you}

It's not one book but tetralogy. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl- the first book was interesting and very promising but then I was totally disappointed. I don't know what the authors had wanted to create and did create but the whole this ended up like a mockery with the reader. I hated spending all this time with them, it was a complete wasting anyway.

Meeko from Pocahontas

{Pocahontas’s sly and sneaky racoon friend – Name a plot twist that you did not see coming}

Maybe The Last Survivors by Susan Beth Pfeffer? I haven't seen something so spectacular happening after the some-kind-of apocalypse, except the everyday surviving which gets a bit annoying after three same books (I haven't read the last one yet). And I've read a review that the last one isn't a big deal as well.

Flounder from The Little Mermaid

{Gentle with their princess but protective with everyone else – Name your favourite best friend in a novel}

I don't know but I think of Simon from The Mortal Instruments. He's Clary's best friend and loves to protect her and will do anything to defend her.

Louis from The Princess and the Frog

{The Musical Bunch – Name a novel where music played a big part or made you want to sing its praises}

The Violinist of Venice by Alyssa Palombo - in fact, a novel about Antonio Vivaldi so the music is a huge part of it. I still haven't read The Most Beautiful Woman in Florence, yet here's the story about Botticelli. Anyway, I'm pretty interested in historical romances and I'll be looking forward to reading it soon.

Maximus from Tangled

{The obstacle in Flynn Rider’s way – Name a character that faces a lot of obstacles}

All Percy Jackson characters literally. They're walking magnets for troubles and obstacles. I can hardly think of other characters facing more obstacles than them.

Hamish, Hubert, & Harris from Brave

{Favorite family dynamics in a novel}

DeGrasse series by Stefanie Ross - five astonishing books about every single one of the brothers DeGrasse! I love them so, so much, yet I'm not able to read the books after the third one (I don't speak German for f.uck's sake!)

Fairies from Sleeping Beauty

{The Advice Givers – Book that most impacted your life}

Dark Lover by J. R. Ward introduced me to reading and therefore I've become a bookworm. She'd always have a reserved place in my heart. The first of many other since the series is brilliant!

Hei Hei from Moana

{Name a character that steals the show}

That thing is so strange and out of any sense. I couldn't make myself to like the movie Moana, it was annoying for me in many ways. Anyway, hm what a character should this kind of strange? I've no idea, anyone I can think of doesn't steal the show and isn't such an insignificant character. Oh, I totally f**ked up this question, the movie was really frustrating and I quite didn't like it.

Gus & Jaq from Cinderella

{Opposites Attract – Name your favourite or worst opposite attracts pairing}

I hate this quote "opposites attract" it can't be more wrong. In my life, I've never come liking a totally opposite person to me. I ended up rather hating him than liking him. And the thing with "opposite attracts pairing" in books seems very stupid to me. In real life, it hardly ever happens. Besides, it's so banal and cliché, I hate reading this kind of books.

The Darkest Surrender by Gena Showalter

  BOOK EIGHT OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  Strider cannot lose a challenge without experiencing inhumane pain because he has the Demon of the Defeat. Overall, I like Strider a lot.
  The cover is one of the yellow ones. I don't know why, but the colours used for all the covers are somewhat strange. They could have been more real and somewhat more varied, though three out of eleven are all yellowish.
  Strider is ready for victory, yet there is reason enough to be. So when somebody talks, he has to choose his words very precisely so that the demon won't accept it as another competition he has to win at all costs.
  Nothing can stand in the way between him and the victory, except maybe Kaia, the bigger sister of Gwendolin, also a harpy. She has a twin sister, Bianca, both of which are half-harps/half-phoenix, but Bianca's Phoenix is missing, unlike Kaia. She likes Strider, but he doesn't want a relationship because it's all a challenge to him and when he wins, he loses interest. In fact, this is suicidal because, in the end, he gets tired of every girlfriend. At her insistence, he accompanied her to the Games of the Harpies as her consort. In addition to proving to the other harpies who hate her because of a past event, she has to win the first place because the reward is more valuable than any gold in the world. It's something they need more than anything else and when they get it, they will be able to finally find the Pandora's box.
  The book is interesting, as Strader is one of my favourite Lords. And Kaia, just like Gwendolin, has curly hair and blue-green eyes. I'll just add that Bianca's hair is chestnut, and the twins are not at all alike. Personally, I very much like this book and I think it's quite intriguing.

The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter

  BOOK SEVEN OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  The seventh book is about Amun, who holds the demon of Secrets. He can't say absolutely anything because as he speaks he reveals any dark secrets to the people around him.
  The cover is a bit... frightening. The very way he stands is as if he's taken out of some horror movie. But I like the butterfly tattoo, it suits awfully well on his chest.
  To save his friends, he has devoured too many inferior demons while in hell in order to save Legion from Lucifer. If you ask me, she deserved what happened to her. In addition, she caused so much trouble to Aeron, and it was supposed she loved him. If it's love to make your loved one suffer ... And now Amun is chained and his only way out is death until Heidee appears. Only she can save him. It is much more than an enemy and an ordinary person.
So they go back to hell to get the demons back where they belong, but in reality, happens something very different from what they expect, and then they both fall in love. Heide isn't really bad at all and I like her pretty much.
   Maybe I don't like Amun very much because it has a darker skin and I don't like dark guys. I'm not a racist, but I prefer the nice white skin like my own, and I'm really very white and I like it.
  Overall, the book wasn't that bad, but I missed something, and that's why I couldn't have liked it that much, but that doesn't mean that someone else will not be more interested than me. Actually, so short review, that's awful of me!

The Darkest Lie by Gena Showalter

  BOOK SIX OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  Gideon can say nothing but a lie because he is cursed to have the demon of Lies. That's why I'm really sorry for him because sometimes it can be a real curse. It's so cruel to not being able to say what you think but the contrary of it.
  The cover wasn't my favourite from the very beginning. I just... I can't perceive it, it's too strange to me. And let's not exclude that a very characteristic mark differs from the character, and nothing prevents us from working this essential detail with a little computer magic.
  I was talking about the hair precisely because Gideon is painting his in brilliant neon blue, and it's obvious that this guy's hair is far from blue. I don't understand what he likes it this way, that color's so screaming. Yes, clearly, he wants to be different, but that's pretty grossly I would say.
  His friends are accustomed to his totally inverse world because when he wants to say he likes something he has to say he doesn't like it. Or whatever else, just on the contrary of it. If he says only one truth, he will experience inhuman pain and become agonizing. It made me sick when he wanted to tell his enemies that he hated instead he told them he loved them because he couldn't tell the truth.
  I think his acquaintance with the goddess Scarlett was at the end of the previous book, and Scarlett is the despised daughter of Rea, the queen of the Titans, but also Cronos'. She thinks so many things in her life are true, and she lives in a delusion that just was a cruel game with her mind by her aunt, Mnemozina, the goddess of memory. She also has the Nightmares demon, one of the others left in the box. It made me really sorry for it because it has always been played with her mind and she no longer knew what was true and what - illusion.
  Despite all this confused story, Gideon falls in love with her, and she also seems to love him, which is wonderful. Overall, the book is not that bad, it just was not my favourite. But you may like The Darkest Lie, of course.

Fall Time, Cozzy Time Book Tag

I saw this tag to spin around Google+ and I decided to do it because it's interesting and appropriate for the already advanced autumn. And this picture is all the more appropriate because it's cold outside, it's raining and the weekend is just like my plans - a cup of hot chocolate and a book. To be precise, I will use the tag I saw in The Quirky Book Nerd's blog.

1. Crunching Leaves: The world is full of colour. Choose a book that has reds, oranges, and yellows on the cover.

That's a bit of a problem, my books are always in dark or neutral nuances that I like, but this one is in the autumn theme.

The Copper Gauntlet by Cassandra Clare & Holly Black

2. Cozy Sweater: It’s finally cold enough to don warm, cozy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies.

Hmm, I have not read any such book yet. It would be a romance, I think of The Hating Game, I don't know, I just like it.

3. Fall Storm: The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favourite book or genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

I would read fantasy - with or without rain, at all times. This is my favourite genre and I read mainly in it, but if I like a book it doesn't stop me reading it no matter what the genre is.

4. Cool Crisp Air: Who’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

That's a hard one. But I quite like Feyre and I'd choose to live in Pritian with pleasure. Sarah Maas' books are always so cool!

5. Hot Apple Cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

DeGrasse series by Stefanie Ross- very appealing and interesting German series. I've read the first three in Bulgarian but I am not able to read the rest since they're neither translated in Bulgarian, nor in English. Oh, how I wish they were translated in English! They're so good romance thrillers and I just need to read them but I can't, I don't speak German. 😔 So yeah, I really want them to be the next big thing.

6. Coats, Scarves, and Mittens: The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up. What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

I would be hiding some which reveal an obviously sexual theme (it'd be so embarrassing!). Some of the romances I've read have very... erotic covers. It'd be apparently what I'm reading.

7. Pumpkin Spice: What’s your favourite fall time comfort food/foods?

Autumn is not my favourite season, and I hardly remember what I love at this time. Actually, there is a kind of a pumpkin pie that makes Mommy and I like it very much, and it usually makes it during fall, so I choose this one. In fact, it's a Bulgarian meal and it's kind of our very famous banitsa. (I know you've no idea what I'm talking about so just Google it, please? Thanks. x) Oh, how I miss home and mum's cooking (the curse to be a poor student).

Anyway, that's what I was talking about. It's called tikvenik and the credits belong to And let's eat.

The Darkest Passion by Gena Showalter

  BOOK FIVE OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  The fifth book is about Aeron. He has the Wrath, which is totally uncontrollable if left to act. That's why I don't like it so much, but with the demon, they have a connection and as strange as it may seem, it really exists and is strong.
  In the cover, I like the blue-greenish colour as well as the look on the back of the man, but only to the neck, because from there on I don't like it.
  Aaron has violet eyes, which is so cool, but also a short-cut soldier's hairstyle, which makes me feel angry about the lost beauty. But with him, I wouldn't use that epithet and explain why. His whole body is tattooed (even on the face) and it's rather repulsive, because I may like tattoos, but as long as they are few and meaningful, not another skin painting. Well, his are connected to everyone he killed, so my argument of meaninglessness loses its value, but still, I don't like him being the whole ... this.
  He doesn't want any love and isn't the type of guy who binds. His only closest being is the demon Legion, who is in love with him, but he doesn't perceive her in any other way except as a child. But this demon of hell is a real whimper that is ready for anything to get Aaron, and it really was terrible for me. I actually hate her.
  And then Olivia appears - an angel who has fallen as she has failed in her task of killing Aeron. She is attracted to his beauty and numerous tattoos to remind him of what his demon has done. She's also attracted to its innocence and pure beauty. That's when the darkest passion comes into being. Their love was subjected to no trial, and thanks to that irritating Legion creature, who brought them nothing but problems.
  *I hate it I'm giving a spoiler but... I'm so sad.*
  The only thing I regret is that eventually, it was necessary to come to a very extreme development, again due to Legion and Aeron's fault, to lose his demon forever. Such fury and brimstone couldn't be suitable for anyone else except him. So if we exclude that irritating creature, the book would be better, but alas, it had to be there. Also, Aeron was friends with his demon, he has experienced centuries even millenniums with him and without him... I found him so empty inside, it'd be like tearing apart from you and I'm so sorry for him.

The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter

  BOOK FOUR OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  This book ranks second in attracting my interest in the series. It is about Sabin, the Doubt warrior. He can whisper contradictory thoughts in the minds of all, with whom he seeds trouble and doubt, the food for his demon.
  I like the cover, this purple hue is very nice, just as I like it. But if the man had a long hair, it would all be perfect, but alas, there's no full happiness.
  In search of the four relics necessary for the discovery of Pandora's box in order to destroy it, which is the only way for demons to be defeated. However, if they are detached from the Lords, they couldn't exist by themselves because they are related to the Lords and their life depends on them. I quite deviated; so, Sabin encounters something unusual. The first artefact they possess is the All-seeing Eye, which sees in the past, the present and the future, in practice it isn't an object, but... #spoiler In a desert pyramid, they find a variety of beings held captive by their greatest enemies - the Hunters. And that's where he meets Gwendoline, and she's a harpy.
  I like Sabin because he has the temper I like. He is a born leader and is very hardheaded, which to me is a great combination. Right from the very beginning, I had a very good impression and that's why he became my second most beloved Lord.
   At first, I thought Gwen was shy and innocent, but it turned out that she contained something far more dangerous than I could have guessed. As a harpy, she's so dangerous that I don't think there is any other sister to her that passes her by force and rapid temper, even from her own sisters, however strong they may be.
  Sabin and Gwen's love is pretty tumultuous and variable, but that's what's most exciting in the book. That's what interests me the most, and that's why I like it that way. I definitely think it's one of the most interesting readings in the whole series if one goes to read it all. The Darkest Whisper has all thumbs up!

The Darkest Pleasure by Gena Showalter

  BOOK THREE OF "LORDS OF THE UNDERWORLD"

  Reyes, however strange he sounds to me (I prefer Race), has the Pain. In order not to weaken his power, he constantly has to "feed" his demon through pain - on himself or the rest. Really awful demon if you ask me.
   The cover is... well pretty yellow and as many times as look at it, it seems strange to me. The man isn't bad, it's obvious, and it is obvious that the butterfly this time is in another place, of course. Everyone has the same, but at a different spot on the body.
  He is very much in love with Danika, a girl who, together with her mother, sister and grandmother, are in danger as Aeron is ordered to kill them, and this will bring him to madness as he doesn't want to do it, but his demon Wrath, wishing only wasting and violence, forces him to kill the four innocent women. Another stupid order of... doesn't matter, someone.
  Overall, this murder is pretty dramatic all the time, and you really want it to end. I don't understand what it was for those f@#king titans to deal with, if nothing else the Greek gods at least so ignored them as though they never existed, and these... I really hate them, you know?
  But the most interesting thing was the consciousness of what Danika really is because she is not an ordinary person. This gave me the greatest surprise, and finally, I was very angry that Cronos wanted to use her as a soulless object for his purposes, but it nevertheless came to an agreement that pleased me very much. By the way, Cronos is a bastard.
  Finally, he manages to keep his beloved and at the same time, his friend is healed by the thirst for blood that has possessed him thanks to... Well, I will not say for whom, if you are intrigued by you will find out by yourself. Now this is a happy ending, isn't it? Both his woman's saved and his friend is healed, I think that it really is. And it really was The Darkest Pleasure.
